Clarity and Bausch + Lomb Launch Automated Cataract Education Program for Participating Practices

June 23, 20263 min read

Clarity Technologies is pleased to announce a new program with Bausch + Lomb designed to help participating ophthalmology practices deliver consistent, automated cataract education to patients before their surgical consultation.

The program will use Clarity’s automated patient education platform to send patients a short-form video Journey focused on cataract surgery, what to expect, and available lens options. Each Journey is delivered directly to the patient by text message, making it easy to access without requiring a password, app download, portal login, or email.

For practices, the goal is simple: help patients arrive at their consultation with a stronger baseline understanding of cataract surgery and the choices they may discuss with their surgeon.

Supporting Better Patient Conversations Before Consultation

Cataract consultations often require practices to cover a significant amount of foundational information in a limited amount of time. Patients may be learning about the condition, the procedure, recovery expectations, and lens options all at once.

The Clarity platform is designed to support that process by delivering education before the visit, allowing the in-office conversation to focus more on the patient’s individual needs, goals, and surgical plan.

Through this program, participating practices will be able to send patients a four-episode Cataract Patient Education Journey that introduces key concepts in a consistent and approachable format. The content is designed to complement, not replace, the surgeon-patient discussion.

Automated Delivery Designed to Reduce Staff Burden

A core part of the program is automation. The Journey can be delivered through integration with a practice’s EMR or practice management system, allowing education to be triggered as part of the practice’s existing consultation workflow.

Participating practices will also have access to additional delivery options, including portal delivery for call centers and while speaking with a patient, webforms for social media and websites, and WatchLinks™, giving teams flexibility based on their internal processes.

By automating the delivery of educational content, the program is designed to help practices create a more consistent pre-consultation experience while reducing the need for staff to repeat the same foundational explanations with every patient.

Measuring Engagement and Education Effectiveness

As part of the program, Clarity will provide reporting on patient engagement and survey responses. These insights will help Bausch + Lomb, Clarity, and participating practices evaluate how patients interact with the education, how much of the Journey they complete, and how helpful patients find the content.

The goal is to better understand how automated education can support the patient experience before consultation and help practices create a more informed, efficient, and confident conversation around cataract surgery and lens options.

Looking Ahead

This program reflects Clarity’s broader commitment to making patient education easier for practices and more accessible to patients.

By combining short-form video education, text-message delivery, practice workflow integration, and engagement analytics, Clarity is helping practices provide important information at the right time, before patients enter the exam room.

We’re excited to work with Bausch + Lomb and participating practices on this initiative and look forward to continuing to improve how patient education is delivered across ophthalmology.
